Otakuthon is a non-profit organization fully run by fans who give their time to make the event a success. While everyone is essentially a volunteer, from a hiring perspective we have three branches, each coming with different responsibilities, requirements and benefits.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to our Recruitment Team for questions related on how you can get involved by contacting recruitment@otakuthon.com
Staff
Staff are people who take on a specialized role, in both administrative and operational aspects, that help make the convention run smoothly. To be eligible for staffing, an applicant must be at least 16 years old by the beginning of their mandate (i.e., work terms). It excludes the training content they need to review to assume their responsibilities.
Volunteering staff members are provided various benefits, but most treat these as a bonus, rather than the reason they are giving their time. You can say the reward itself is the sense of accomplishment from working together in making Otakuthon happen!
Volunteers
Volunteers take care of general miscellaneous tasks that are done at-con, without necessarily having a fixed position in a single specialty. Volunteers are required to be pre-registered as an attendee and to be aged at least 14 years old by Monday before the convention to be eligible to our Volunteer program.
The number of hours they volunteer influences the rewards and the refund percentage available to them.
Volunteers can enjoy greater flexibility to enjoy the convention to its fullest.
We are a COOP
Our COOP program is targeted towards Montréal non‑profit cooperatives serving youths aged 12 to 30 by offering their groups a unique, immersive experience at the convention and its celebration of Japanese culture. If your cooperative is seeking volunteer opportunities suited to your youths’ miscellaneous services, feel free to reach out to volunteers@otakuthon.com to apply.
