It's time to show us just what you cosplayers can do on a dance floor!

Otakuthon is holding a Cosplay Dance Off!, where teams of 4 to 8 participants can perform a dance of their own creation or one found in an anime or other popular media. The Cosplay Dance Off! will take place at the convention. Each team will perform their dance routine in front of a live audience and will be judged by our panel of judges to see which teams have the best and most original dances.

Contest Rules

  1. Each team must have a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 8.
  2. Each participant must be in a themed cosplay. Characters from different anime series are permitted as long as they share a common theme (ex: an all main character group or an all main villain group). The development of original dances and group themes to match with your song choices is strongly encouraged.
  3. All songs choices and dances should be rated PG. No excessive profanity or adult subject matter in your song choices or dances. Only Japanese songs are allowed (anime, J-Pop. Video games, etc).
  4. Points will be awarded for originality of the cosplay group's theme and their overall dance performance.
  5. All dances must be a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds long and up to a maximum of 3 minutes.
  6. Each team must bring an audio CD, with the song to be played as the only track on that CD.
  7. Only one entry per team. Multiple entries will not be accepted.

Entry Information

To participate, the group leader should submit their entry to danceoff@otakuthon.com with the subject "COSPLAY DANCE OFF ENTRY". Please include the following information:

  • Name of the act.
  • Name of the song that the team will be using.
  • Real full names of each participant on the team.
  • Theme
  • Names of each cosplay

Participants do not need to pre-register with the convention before the contest, but if you have pre-registered, then please provide your registration number. However, you still need to register for the Cosplay Dance Off! and provide your information via e-mail before the due date.

All contest entries must be submitted by Saturday August 7th, 2010.

Once submitted, an email confirmation will be sent to inform you of the status of your entry.

The number of entries will be limited to the amount of time the Cosplay Dance Off! will last, so register now!

Although teams can register their entry in both the Ceremonies' Dance Competition and the Cosplay Dance Off!, the first and second place winners of the Ceremonies' Dance Competition will not be eligible to compete in the Cosplay Dance Off!.
